Polycrystalline Fiber Blanket is a needled blanket made from polycrystalline mullite fibre (Al2O3 >= 72%, SiO2 <= 28%) and produced without any organic binder. It is the blanket grade for the places where standard aluminosilicate blanket, AES blanket and even high-purity blanket all eventually fail: continuous service up to 1600 C in furnaces that are heated and cooled every shift.
The polycrystalline grain structure resists the sintering and embrittlement that destroys conventional blankets within a few hundred heat cycles, so the blanket keeps its resilience, its thickness and its insulating value over the long campaign life of an industrial furnace.

A: Aluminosilicate blanket is limited to about 1260 C continuous service and starts to sinter visibly above 1100 C. Polycrystalline grade keeps its resilience and shrinkage behaviour up to 1600 C, with markedly longer service life in cyclic duty.

A: Yes. The needling process uses mechanical entanglement rather than chemical binder, so there is no smoke, flame or odour on first heat-up.
