Ceramic Fiber Blanket is a spun aluminosilicate insulation roll produced by high-temperature melting, spinning and double-sided needling. The needling step interlocks the fibres on both faces, so the blanket holds together when it is cut, rolled and pulled over studs during lining work. It is supplied in continuous rolls in 1220 mm and 1820 mm factory widths, and is the standard first layer wherever a furnace lining has to be built up from thin courses rather than hoisted in as one piece.
Because the blanket is needled rather than bonded, it carries no organic binder and gives off no smoke on first heat-up. Layer thickness is chosen by stacking, which lets a lining crew tune the total insulation value on site without waiting for a factory run.
